Akhila, 15, will be in her mid-40s in 2050, possibly with a family of her own.

She wants to see a city that’s greener, makes use of electric vehicles and cycles to get around and, most importantly for her, provides fair and equal opportunities for all, regardless of background or demographic.

“I think it’s one of the main things that holds people back, and I hope in 2050 it will be easier for people to reach their goals and do what they want,” she says.

Akhila, from East Craigs, Corstorphine, is already sharing her vision for the future as a member of the steering group for the 2050 Edinburgh City Vision campaign. Her input now means young voices are being heard on the city’s future which, after all, will affect them most.

She adds: “Young people are the ones who will be in charge, raising families and such in 32 years’ time, so we need to make sure we are heard.

“It’s so important that we all take the time to speak up”.
